Board of Education elects new Chair

February 14, 2024

The Abbotsford Board of Education has a new governance leader. Trustee Shirley Wilson was elected as Chair at last night's public meeting of the Board. Wilson was first elected to the Board of Education in 2005. She succeeds Trustee Korky Neufeld, who stepped aside following his recent announcement to run in upcoming provincial elections. Trustee Preet Rai will continue as Vice-Chair.

"As I step into the role of Board Chair, I am honoured to continue serving our community with an unwavering dedication to public education," notes Wilson. “With years of experience on the Board, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that our strategic plan not only guides us forward but inspires us to continue building a world-class, innovative, and individualized educational experience for every student."

Following the organizational meeting of the Abbotsford Board of Education, Wilson acknowledged and thanked Trustee Neufeld for his time and commitment to serving as Board Chair and extended appreciation to Trustee Rai for stepping into interim Chair duties during the transition period.

In compliance with Board Policies 4 and 5, the Board of Education holds elections for Chair and Vice-Chair positions to support its governance structure.
